A very cold day

Birding today wasn't productive at all. The strong north-easterly wind was bringing freezing temperatures for the whole day and the sun appeared only at midday.
At Miramare of interest 9 Common Gulls (see pics) and the usual Black-headeds.

Common Gull

Between Duino (TS) and Lisert (GO): some Common Eiders, Red-breasted Mergansers, some Greenshanks and one female Hen Harrier.
Then first at Terranova and then at Isola della Cona (GO):
White-fronted Goose (hundreds), Pochard (3 m + 1 f), Tufted Duck (1 m), Goldeneye (on the river Isonzo), Reef Egret (the usual one, but this time on the Quarantia canal), Hen Harrier (1 m), Green Sandpiper (2 at Terranova!), Snipe, Skylark (nice flocks at Terranova), Tree Sparrow (on the bird feeders at Isola della Cona), Greenfinch (at birdfeeder), Reed Bunting, Yellowhammer (1 bright yellow male landing on some low trees - nice record for the area). Very amazing to see a Moorhen on the birdfeeder, with Chaffinches at Isola della Cona!
